Mayor Tom Henry Responds to RFRA

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO):  Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry is joining the discussion on the newly enacted Religious Freedom Restoration Act.

The Mayor is leaving the implementation and interpretation to lawmakers and the courts.  In statement released, today, Mayor Henry says he's “committed to meeting the needs of all residents and businesses.”

Here's the full statement:

Indiana’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act was signed into law by Governor Pence last week after passing both chambers of the Indiana General Assembly. I recognize Fort Wayne residents hold strong views on this issue both in support and opposition of this law.

Ultimately RFRA’s effects will be determined by our courts or the legislature, should they decide to modify this law.

As for the City of Fort Wayne, my administration remains committed to continuing to meet the needs of all residents and businesses as we work together to build on our momentum and invest in the future of our community.
