FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A program once destined for the chopping block at IPFW is safe once again.

The college has announced it will keep the Women’s Studies program, which was one of several programs slated for elimination in a restructuring plan. The program has been moved to the department of Political Science, according to Eric Link, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences:

“We had to be able to achieve certain efficiencies and certain cost savings,” he says. “By moving the program we were able to achieve some of those savings.”

He says the college is “very pleased” to keep the program alive, and while he hasn’t received and specific feedback from students yet, but expects them to be excited about the news.

The restructuring plan led to protests on campus, with Women’s Studies students being among the most vocal opponents.
