FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The body found near the Churubusco home where two children were abducted Monday is that of 66-year-old Frank Macomber.
The Allen County Coroner’s Office confirmed the identity Tuesday. He had been shot and killed in the woods before 29-year-old Amber Pasztor took 7-year-old Lilliana Hernandez and 6-year-old Rene Pasztor, the Allen County Sheriff’s Department told 21Alive in Fort Wayne.
Macomber’s body was found less than a half-mile east of the home along U.S. 33 in Churubusco where the children lived.
Deputies found the body at 1:40 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 27, while searching the area.
The children, Liliana Hernandez, 7, and six-year-old Rene Pasztor, 6, were the subject of an Amber Alert on Monday. They were found dead inside a vehicle at the Elkhart Police Department on Monday evening. Their mother, Amber Pasztor, was arrested a few hours after she approached an officer outside of the police department and told him the children were dead in the backseat of the car. She remains in custody at the Elkhart County Jail.
Police say their bodies were found in the car that matched the description of the car in the Amber Alert.
The children died due to asphyxiation and their deaths have been ruled as homicides, according to the Elkhart County Coroner.
