Republican Convention Delayed
The tropical storm hitting Florida is delaying the Republican Convention by at least one day. The Monday session will be opened and then immediately closed since the Convention didn't want to distract emergency workers from other duties.
National television had already said it wouldn't cover the first day, an arbitrary decision they likely would not have done if the Democrats and Republicans roles had been reversed but of course we all know they were mostly (to understate the point) in the President's camp. (This isn't opinion, traditionally some 85% plus of national media people are Democrats. The rising alternative media on the right confuses this a little bit - for example, how you count talk radio which is overwhelmingly conservative because liberal talk show hosts can't sustain audiences.)
Ann Romney was already moved to Tuesday night so her speech could get television coverage. One of the goals of the Convention is to "humanize" Mitt Romney. It started with today's Romney family interview in Parade magazine.
The good news from the weather delay is that Vice-President Biden decided not to come to Tampa for the Convention.
The bad news is that they are sending Biden to Florida, but east of Tampa, apparently because they think all his hot air blowing west will keep the storm over Tampa longer.
