INDIANAPOLIS (WOWO): If you are traveling this weekend, a word of warning.
Law enforcement agencies around the state, including the State Police, have beefed up patrols as part of the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over blitz.
Officers will be looking for impaired and aggressive driving, plus drivers that are speeding, following too close and making unsafe lane changes as well as violations of Indiana’s seat belt law. If you encounter dangerous or impaired drivers you can call 911. Make sure you have a vehicle description, location and direction of the vehicle Never attempt to follow the driver.
There is a sobriety checkpoint Friday in Adams County, and likely other checkpoints for high traffic areas.
If you plan on attending events with alcohol, the Indiana State Police offers the following tips.
•Plan ahead and always designate someone as a designated driver.
•Don’t get behind the wheel of a vehicle if you’ve been consuming alcoholic beverages.
•If you are impaired, please call a taxi or call a sober friend or family member to come and get you.
•If you are hosting a party, always offer alcohol-free beverages, and make sure that all of your guests leave with a sober driver.
•Remember, Friends Don’t Let Friends Drive Drunk. Take the keys and never let a friend leave your sight if you think that they are about to drive while impaired.
