Firefighters Receive Training for Extraction Created by djackson on 4/8/2014 3:15:45 PM
INDIANAPOLIS (WOWO): Dozens of fire instructors from across the country are getting a head start on their annual conference in Indianapolis with a round of training on how to rescue people trapped in vehicles.
The Fire Department Instructors Conference is holding separate training exercises for rescuing people from cars, semis or school buses. Angola firefighter and F-D-I-C division supervisor T-R Hagerty explains different vehicles create different challenges for rescuers -- an angle of attack that works on a car might create a risk of injury on a school bus.
More than 30-thousand firefighters are expected in Indy when the full conference kicks off on Wednesday, making it one of the city‘s largest conventions. Instructors will take the lessons they‘ve learned back to their home departments to train instructors there.
