BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) - A former U.S. ambassador to Poland has been named the first leader of Indiana University's School of Global and International Studies.

Lee Feinstein served as ambassador from 2009 to 2012 and advised Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama during their 2008 presidential runs. He's also worked with the Council on Foreign Relations and the Brookings Institution.

IU's board of trustees approved the school in 2012. The Herald-Times reports former Sen. Richard Lugar and former Rep. Lee Hamilton will be professors of practice under Feinstein.

The school is expected to open in June 2015. Work is underway on a $53 million building to house 320 faculty members.

Feinstein will report to College of Arts and Sciences Dean Larry Singell.
