COLUMBUS, Ind. (AP): A small plane crashed into a house injuring two and sparking a fire in a central Indiana.

One victim was airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital. Witnesses say he was found about 20 feet way from the crash and is believed to be a man in his late 50's or early 60's. He suffered cuts and burns. Another victim walked away from the crash, saying "Thank God, I'm alive."

A Columbus resident who knows the pilot, says the plane was built from a kit.

The Indiana State Police is reporting says the crash happened on the northside of the city.

The accident happened about a mile from the city's airport, and the fire sent a plume of dark smoke over the city. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze, though the home was badly damaged. Other nearby homes suffered minor damage.

Columbus is about 40 miles south of Indianapolis.
