INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ An Indiana labor union leader says she's worried that workers who expose unsafe working conditions could face greater jeopardy under changes to a bill that had aimed to make it illegal to take video or photos at farms and factories without permission.
An Indiana House committee amended the bill Monday in an attempt to avoid freedom of speech issues by focusing it on criminal trespass and those who gain employment by giving false information. Opponents had argued the bill would have punished whistleblowers and criminalized the exposure of the truth.
Indiana AFL-CIO president Nancy Guyott tells The Indianapolis Star she worries the revisions could become a way for employers to intimidate whistleblowers.
The bill now goes to the full House for consideration.
