New Ramp Configuration Planned for I-69 at Dupont Road

The I-69 on and off-ramps at Dupont Road will soon be a testing ground for a new type of highway interchange.  It's called a 'diverging diamond' and when it's completed, it'll be one of the first in the state.  Basically, it forces traffic onto the left side of the road for a short time, to allow traffic to more easily access the highway ramps.  Once it's completed, the $1.7 million project is expected to help decrease the number of accidents in the area.  The work will be paid for mostly with federal highway dollars with about a-fifth of the money coming from IN-DOT. Work is scheduled to begin on the project, next year.
