2 Men involved in IHOP Shooting Knew Each Other

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) _ Lafayette police say a homeless man holding a hostage killed himself before crashing his pickup truck into a garage in the city.

Investigators said Wednesday they believe 46-year-old Steven Keith Moseley shot 63-year-old Joel Ray Hershman Jan. 10 while they were parked at an IHOP restaurant. The Journal & Courier reports Hershman had hired Moseley to do some work at his Newton County hardware store, then drove him to Lafayette.

Police also say a department review board found that an officer was justified when she shot at the suspect's pickup truck as it was driving toward her. A report of a man being held against his will at the IHOP turned into a brief police chase that ended with the truck crashing through a garage.
