Gang member gets 30 years for racketeer charge...

HAMMOND, Ind. (AP) _ A federal judge in northwest Indiana has sentenced a gang member from Chicago who faced a possible life sentence after pleading guilty to conspiracy to racketeer to 30 years in prison.

The Post-Tribune of Merrillville reports that U.S. District Judge Lozano said he was accepting the sentence recommended by the U.S. Attorney's Office and Brandon Clay's attorney even though he had concerns about Clay's criminal past as a member of the Latin Kings.  Clay pleaded in July as part of a plea agreement.

The Post-Tribune reports that Clay did not plead guilty to any murder counts, but said in his plea that he was responsible for the murder of at least two people. The U.S. attorney dropped some charges against Clay in return for the guilty plea.
