Indiana State University officials are working to create a uniform policy for minors on campus to ensure children are protected and to prevent child abuse scandals like the one that rocked Penn State University.

The Tribune-Star reports a committee led by ISU Vice President John Beacon is looking at existing policies and procedures and best practices at other universities. It will present its findings at the trustees' meeting in October.

Beacon says most departments lack policies for background checks or other requirements for dealing with minors. He told trustees at a recent seminar that the university is "vulnerable."

ISU President Dan Bradley says the new policy should focus on the safety and health of minors on campus and outline what needs to happen if an incident occurs.
